RUDE and offensive T-shirts are making their way onto people's backs and onto our streets.
You can now easily find them in shops along Orchard Road and Bugis Street.
Many of them carry sexual messages, some even print the F-word explicitly.
'The thing is, people don't care. They don't really bother about the meaning of it. As long as they feel it looks good, it's funny, it's OK, they'll wear it,' said sales assistant Jun Sim, who works at street store X-craft in Tampines Mall.
Even with the trend becoming more socially accepted, some Singaporeans think that such T-shirts are sending the wrong messages.
STOMPer Sanjay thinks 'things like these should definitely not be displayed'.

My reflection:
As I am a shopping fan,I ever came accross some shops which sell the so-called "offensive T-shirts",there are many young people walk around the shops. And those shops attract me because those T-shirts are unusual, for there are some informal sentences in Singlish or some interesting designs printed on the T-shirts. It is obvious that they can not accepted by traditional people, but for me, I can accept it because I think they're just something that shows the free and fresh attitude of young people and they do not mean to offend others. Nowadays the trend among young people is that we should live in a natural and pleasant way.Hence, young people dare to do whatever they like and they enjoy taking adventures in life. Since those people don't care to wear it, why others can not bear seeing it? It is no need to angry at those people or see them as offensive guys because the social is developing and human are progressing and young people are the spearheads of the change.

I think I agree more with the original author. Though I think it is okay for young people wear as they like, they should consider the impact they may left to the people. There are lot ways to show the difference from others. All those F-word and S-word printed on the T-shirt may make others think you are so different. However the difference is how ridiculous you are to wear those words on your T-shirt. In my opinion, the idea to print something you want to show your style is a good idea, but what you choose to print on the T-shirt refract what kind of people you are. So I think it is better to consider more when purchasing those offensive T-shirts.

In my opinion, the rude and offensive T-shirts are not equal to the special designed or printed with Singlish words T-shirts. They must have some dirty words or pictures. For me, wearing such impolite T-shirts is just like speaking rudely in public. This is the reflection of one's inner quality. If everyone walking on the street wears one such T-shirt, how this society will be look like. I will feel embarrassed myself and do not want to talk to them, because they are not civilized enough. Furthermore, being polite in public is the basic good manner one should have. As the mentioned matter of tradition and modern, I think no matter how open the society is, the basic quality we cannot drop. All in all, I do not support people to wear the rude and offensive T-shirts.

Comment from Irene:
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I do not feel well when I see teenagers wearing rude and offensive T-shirts. For me, T-shirt with rude, offensive and even sexual messages are just like movable advertising boards that spread dirty and bad information. I do not understand why some teenagers like it. They may want to show their own style in wearing and thinking through this way. But in my eyes, those words in T-shirt only represent impoliteness and ignorance. Though I will not hate or look down upon teenages wearing offensive T-shirts, as strangers, they leave a quite bad impression on me. But as Iris said, this phenomenon shows teenagers' free and fresh attitude to the life. It is their rights to choose what they want to wear and it does not really damage the interests of others. So my words above may be too serious towords offensive T-shirt. However, all in all, I discourage teenages to wear T-shirt with offensive words. But if they still insist on it, it is their right to wear it. I just cannot pretend I like it.
Different from the opinions above,i agree more on Iris's opinion. Although i think it's impolite to wear T-shirts with rude or offensive messages, I think it's a freedom of citizens to choose what they wear. From the perspective of the government, i think they definitely do not recommand people wearing like this because it may form a bad image in the society. As for the individuals, i think it really depends on different people. Some people think a person can be represented by the clothing style that he chooses. But other people may not be concerned what others look at him and he just thinks it's fun to wear like this. I think that it's a free choice for everyone and other should not blame them. If you don't like something, better not blame others who like that.Besides, i also think that different styles of wearing may make the society more various.
ReplyDeleteBut i don't ignore the bad effect of these kinds of T-shirts. So long as there are not so many people wearing like these, walking on the streets. I think it's alright to leave it to the society.
